Gilbert Neighborhood Update

The eight lot neighborhood, with differing home styles by Muddy River Design, is taking shape and families are moving into finished homes.  Cameron and Curtis Homes’ Team are proud of this neighborhood!  We want to bring to our industry and community an energy efficient neighborhood with classic looking homes with lots of built-in character. Homes that are sustainable as well as beautiful!

Each home has an energy rating from the Energy Trust of Oregon upon completion.  This rating will stay with the home as a rating on it’s energy standard.  We use energy sustaining building techniques as well as products that set these family homes up for success.

In conjunction with a livable and sustainable home is the unique design of every home, we have a craftsman, traditional, farmhouse, prairie, foursquare style homes.  As you pass through the street each home stands alone as a special and vibrant part of the neighborhood.  There is one lot left!

Energy Trust of Oregon Visits!

Thank you Energy Trust Oregon for touring two of our homes in our Gilbert Neighborhood, Hood River, Oregon. The Gilbert Neighborhood homes are special, all designed to be energy efficient and have an EPS score.  The EPS score is a way of measuring how energy efficient is the home. The houses in Gilbert make-up the first neighborhood in Hood River, Oregon to to all have an EPS rating! If you haven’t heard of the Energy Trust of Oregon, head to their website to learn more about their mission of helping homeowners and the building industry work towards being more “green” or energy efficient or even net-zero.  There are many ways Curtis Homes builds mindfully and energy conscious. Some techniques are hidden once the home is finished, and some of the methods are visible in daily use of the finished home.  Two examples, are wrapping a home in an outer insulation called a thermo sheathing, which gets siding on top of it, but works hard for the home keeping in warmth or cold AC air. In contrast to the unseen energy updates, inside the whole house is fitted with LED lighting on dimmers and a plethora of well placed windows for natural light.

New Rustic Style Home

Curtis Homes built a rustic style home in White Salmon, Washington.  The home features impressive wood beams, a re-claimed barnwood wainscoting in the main living areas and wood accents wrapping the exterior of the home!  Builder Cameron Curtis commented, “the home is a one-level with wood accents that turn-up the character and style of this beautiful house.”   The built-in hutch and shelving continue to add to the character of this home build.

Tour a New Home

Houzz is a great tool for homeowners, future-homeowners, remodelers, builders and inspiration for the dreamers!  Take a tour of the inside of recent home we finished in Bend.  It was on the Central Oregon Builder Associations tour of homes this summer.

The home overlooks Northwest Crossing’s Discovery Park in Bend, Oregon. The views of the living room are of the courtyard and pond in Discovery Park. The interior of the home invites in the Central Oregon light, vistas, and natural beauty. The home was designed to always have a useable outdoor space that is protected from the winter elements or shaded from the hot summer sun. The goal of the kitchen was to be the center of the party- if you’re in the kitchen you still can see what is happening out on the courtyard or in the living room.

Townhouses in Hood River

The Curtis Homes’ team has been working diligently on our Goose Way Townhouse project, and finished two of the eight townhouse last week.  There is one townhouse still for sale!  These townhouses have 12 ft. ceilings in the lower-level.  The added ceiling space makes the living, dinning, kitchen, master bedroom feel extra spacious and offer upper windows that will always be welcoming light in.  Each unit has the personal touch of the homeowner.  Each home has a back porch and two car garage with lots of storage.  The best part about these homes is the three bedroom, two-level homes offer plenty of space for families or others looking to downsize.  We’re excited to offer an alternative option here in Hood River, offering a home that is versatile for people.

Hood River Home Finished!

This modern-prairie style home was  a fun project for us (Emily and Cameron), because we chose the finishes for the large three-story home.  The vision for the house was to create a sleek, modern space and to highlight the beautiful symmetry in the home!  The 2,500+ sq ft house has four bedrooms, three and half baths and open main-level living.  The home is warm, thank you warm-toned wood floors, and the full of natural light, thank you Ply Gem upper windows.

Scrolling through the Curtis Homes’ Instagram for this home’s under construction photos.  Tour the finished home photos below or on our Houzz page (Click here)

Built-in Storage!

Many people are looking for ways to add efficiency to a space, while cutting back on “stuff”. To some people “stuff” means items that aren’t a need or unused items. These objects clutter-up our homes and lives!

Have you ever thought that to much furniture can add to the “stuff” problem or be the problem? Instead of buying furniture add built-ins to a home.   Built-ins store the items a family will use everyday in a place that makes sense.  Customizing built-ins for a room will mean there is no bulky furniture to put clutter on top off or break the flow of the space.  The difference between a built-in and furniture, is that a built-in adds permanent value and character to a home!  Think about how to use built-in shelves, a buffet or window seat to maximize a room’s space.
